چکیده
The canning of shrimp was first successfully done i n 1867 by George W. Dunbar, an enterprising New Englander who settled i n New Orleans and operated a cannery after the C iv i l War. From this dif f icult and trying beginning, an industry has developed which consists of approximately 70 shrimp canners i n the United States, 25 of which are located on the coast of the Gul f o f Mexico. are primarily i n Louisiana and Mississippi on bays or bayous or within short trucking distance of the docks. remain family enterprises. The canneries compete for the available supplies of raw shrimp and generally obtain and process the smaller sizes, Therefore, the economical operating period i s generally during the short spring and fal l seasons when shrimp may be taken i n the regulated coastal waters. the variables of supply and the market price, the competition for the raw shrimp i s great and no plant i s assured that i t w i l l operate on a continuous schedule. Nevertheless, each plant which operates must be able to handle i t s perishable raw shrimp supply i n a short time. efficient mechanical operating basis. Most of the equipment i s o f the same or similar manufacture and the wastes created by the operating units have very similar characteristics. The Gu l f Coast Canneries

Removal of heavy metals and suspended solids from shrimp culture wastewater in Bushehr Province, using cold plasma technology
The present work has been carried out to investigate the removal efficiency of active oxygen, produced by using APGP cold plasma sterilizer, on the heavy metals of Hg, Pb and Total Suspended Solids in discharge wastewater of Shif shrimp culture complex and Persian Gulf SPF shrimp research center in Bushehr province. The maximum of removal efficiency for Hg and Pb were 66% and 74%, respectively...
متن کاملEffect of Dissolved Oxygen and Chemical Oxygen Demand to Nitrogen Ratios on the Partial Nitrification/Denitrification Process in Moving bed Biofilm Reactors
Partial nitrification was reported to be technically feasible and economically favorable, especially for wastewaterwith high ammonium concentration or low C/N ratio. In this study, the effect of dissolved oxygen (DO)and influent ratio of chemical oxygen demand to nitrogen (COD/N) ratio on biological nitrogen removal fromsynthetic wastewater was investigated. Experiments were c...
متن کاملSynthesis of Low-Cost Nanochitosan from Persian Gulf Shrimp Shell for Efficient Removal of Reactive Blue 29 (RB29) Dye from Aqueous Solution
Untreated wastewater disposal containing synthetic dyes produces serious problems in the environment. Industrial wastewater containing dye requires treatment by a suitable process before discharging into the environment. The present study has been performed as a batch experimental study. Nanochitosan was synthesized from the Persian Gulf shrimp shell. The effect of the various parameters in...
متن کاملGrowth, Mortality and Stock Abundance of Venerid Bivalve, Paphia cor from Iranian Coastal Waters of Bushehr, Persian Gulf
In this study, population dynamics of venerid bivalve Paphia cor was investigated for a one-year period (2008-2009) in Bushehr shoreline areas (50˚ 40´ E- 29˚ 14´N) to estimate the stock abundance, growth parameters and natural mortality. Sampling was carried out bi-monthly by transects at random direction and zigzag pattern with duplicated quadrate (0.25 m2). The length frequency was ...
متن کاملErythromycin residues concentration in urban wastewater discharged into the Persian Gulf marine environment (a case study: Bandar Abbas city)
Background and Objective: As pharmaceutically active compounds (particularly antibiotics) are known emerging contaminants (EC), their occurrence in the environment has high health risks for the living organisms and the public. The effluent of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) is the most important source of residues of these compounds in the environment. The urban wastewater of Bandar Abbas i...
